Treatments Modalities

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that focuses on identifying maladaptive (incorrect) ways of thinking. Treatment with a CBT therapist tends to focus on identifying faulty patterns of thinking, challenging them and changing them leading to less difficulty in overall functioning.

Exposure and Response Prevention

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is often coupled with CBT and involves the repeated and gradual process of exposing a patient to a feared event/object/outcome and teaching them to utilize a different behavioral response to that feared event/object/outcome. The expectation for treatment is that over time the individuals fear will diminish, their tolerance of their negative feelings will increase, and their behaviors will change as a result.

Behavioral Activation Therapy

Behavioral Activation (BA) focuses on movement and activity. Most individuals suffering from depressive disorders will avoid, isolate and withdraw from all the things in life that they enjoy. BA focuses on getting depressed individuals to gradually decrease their avoidance and isolation and increase their engagement in activities that have been shown to improve mood. Many times, this includes activities that they enjoyed before becoming depressed.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a unique empirically based psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies, together with commitment and behavior change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility.
